The ASUS ZEN Smartwatch is certainly among the best that the company has ever produced. It’s a modern-looking smartwatch complete with apps, functionalities, advanced technologies. There’s no questioning about its durability and quality as well because during the time I had this watch on my wrist I always feel comfortable with it and not to worry about compromising it.
As I said earlier, when it comes to aesthetics the ZEN Smartwatch is right up there in the competition. The watch sports a rectangular body with a nice-looking AMOLED curved screen with Gorilla Glass 3 over it. The body is made from pure stainless steel with dust and water resistance rating of IP 55. The strap which is connected to two metal pieces on the side of the Zen Smartwatch can be replaced with another strap material. All in all, I like how the watch looks and feels. Good job to Asus for giving us a smartwatch that looks just like a real watch.
As for the hardware department, the watch is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 4 GB of storage and 512 RAM. The RAM is sizeable enough for the Android Lollipop software running the watch. The watch features a number of sensors which includes a heartbeat sensor and the 9 axis sensors. Navigating through the watch is a breeze, switching from different tasks were also fast and apps are launching pretty quick thanks to its new Android Wear software.
The Asus ZEN Smartwatch functions just like what you expect it to do. It gives you the information you need right away. It receives notifications, weather reports, mapping conditions, alerts and traffic updates. All these information are going to be displayed on the smartwatch. Scrolling up the screen will show your latest notifications, scrolling down will give you access to basic settings like mute, brightness, vibration and other controls.
The watch also features a couple of smart gestures which I really like. One good example of this is when you cover the watch with your hand, the incoming call or alarm will be muted. Another example is that you can turn on/off its screen by shaking your wrist or tapping the screen. And if you lost your phone, the smartwatch will vibrate so you can find it. The watch will create a buzzing noise once it’s disconnected from your phone. There is also a good selection of watch faces to choose from if you want to change how it looks. The smartwatch also has a couple of built-in apps which I find really useful like the Asus Wellness app.
As far as battery is concerned, the Asus ZEN Smartwatch packs a standard 360mAh battery which the company says will last for a day with moderate use. It’s not that bad but it’s not that good either.
