Luminox, which stands for “Light night” in Latin, was born in 1989. It was watch industry veteran, Barry Cohen, who founded the brand in a desire to provide sports watches that feature cutting-edge luminescence and readability. Among the brand’s highlight is the self-powered illumination present in each of its watches, which is produced by tritium. This allows wearers to view time on their Luminox watches regardless of the level of light.
The Luminox brand is widely known for providing timepieces for the Navy SEAL. In 1993, Nick North, who was the Assistant RDT&E Officer for the SEAL at that time, worked with Cohen to develop a timepiece that is specifically designed for the SEAL. Since then, Luminox has become more determined to combine innovative technology, advance design, and extreme performance for all their watches.
