The history of Omega began in 1848 with the founding of La Generale Watch Co, by Louis Brandt. In 1894, Brandt’s two sons developed a new technology that allowed watch components to be interchangeable. These watches were sold under the brand name Omega. The success of Omega resulted to its official founding in 1903. The rest was history. Over time, Omega experienced rapid growth. In 1917, Britain’s Royal Flying Corps chose the brand to be its official timekeeper. The American army did the same in 1918. In 1969, Omega was chosen by NASA, making it the first watch brand to reach the moon. Omega watches have also been the official timekeeper of the Olympics since 1932. The brand has also been the choice for James Bond films since 1995. In short, Omega is one of the most successful watch brands owned by the Swatch Group.
