Review Summary:

An excellent GPS running watch with built in heart rate monitor that offers the best value for both serious and casual runners out there.

The Garmin Forerunner 235 is the company’s latest running watch. It’s a bit confusing though since the Forerunner 225 was just released recently and we now have a replacement for it after only 6 months. It leaves you wondering what is really going on and what Garmin is planning to do.

The Forerunner 235 is a running watch with a heart rate monitor in it. Its heart rate monitor uses optical light to get a good look at your blood flow on your wrist. This technology is not exactly new but it was recently introduced in a Garmin watch with the introduction of their Forerunner 225.

The Forerunner 235 is very comfortable to wear and its heart rate monitor is accurate enough for most people. What I mean to say is that its heart rate monitor, which is developed exclusively by the company, is working very well just like the heart rate monitor from the Forerunner 225 complete with the same technology but developed by Mio.

One thing you’ll notice about the Forerunner 235 is that it has a bigger display than its predecessor. Despite its bigger display, the watch is lighter than the earlier Garmin watches. In fact, it is the thinnest Garmin watch to date. The lesser weight should help in making the watch comfortable for everyone who wears it.

The Forerunner 235 is not also lacking in features as well. It introduces a new set of features which includes activity tracking, advanced workouts, time, speed, distance and many more. The Forerunner 235 is a lot like the Forerunner 230 when it comes to functionality and design.

As for the battery, the Forerunner 235 is claimed to last for at least 11 hours when in full activity mode (GPS is turned on along with the heart rate monitor). Its battery is slightly better than the earlier Garmin running watch which only lasts for less than 10 hours.

  • Accurate GPS tracking good for running.
  • The heart rate monitor works 24/7.
  • Good water resistance rating.

  • Connectivity issues.
  • The accompanied Garmin Connect app is confusing and hard to navigate.

With its larger display and a better set of new features, it only make sense that you should go with the Forerunner 235 if you are looking for a GPS running watch with heart rate monitoring. There are also other choices that you can check out like the Forerunner 225 which is now available at a very good deal. But if you are already set with getting a Forerunner 235, I definitely can’t blame you because it is probably the best running watch you can buy right now.

An excellent GPS running watch with built in heart rate monitor that offers the best value for both serious and casual runners out there.
