The Garmin Vívoactive is not just your typical smartwatch. Garmin is a company that’s known for its GPS equipment that comes with a rather poor design and build. But the company is hoping to change that image of theirs when they released their line of smartwatches. The Garmin Vívoactive, for example, combines the performance of their very capable line of Vívofit fitness trackers and their high-end GPS-tracking technology into a modern, stylish watch. Not only that, the Vívoactive also comes with a heart-rate sensor which is makes it a good wearable tech that athletes can wish for.

The Garmin Vívoactive can be mistaken as an Apple Watch when you first see it especially at a distance. But at close up, it really is different from an Apple Watch. It’s thin and lightweight. You’d be amazed how thin it is as compared to other GPS smartwatches out there. There’s not much to complain about the design and build quality of the smartwatch. The two buttons on the right and left side works really well, the display is also good, and the bands are comfortable.

Talk about performance, the Garmin Vívoactive is pretty reliable as a fitness tracker. Like all fitness trackers, it can monitor the steps you’ve taken, the calories you’ve burned, your sleeping activity, and the distance you’ve travelled. It has also has GPS tracking that when paired to certain apps, you’ll be able to keep a record of your walking, running, swimming, cycling, and golf activities.

As a smartwatch, theVívoactive is also pretty decent too. Once it’s paired with a smartwatch, it can receive notifications from your smartphone like emails, calls, messages, and other stuff. There’s also Garmin’s app store which is the IQ Connect Store. You can download additional apps from there to give more functionality to the watch as well as widgets if you want to customize its watch face.

Product Features:

  • 1 year battery life
  • LCD display
  • Smart notifications
  • Heart-rate monitor
  • GPS tracking
  • Built-in sports apps
  • Multi-sport tracking

Pros:

  • Thin, lightweight, comfortable design.
  • Good battery performance.
  • Always-on display.
  • Smart notifications works consistently.
  • Water resistant.

Cons:

  • Buggy software.
  • The watch interface takes time to get used to.
  • Low-light visibility is poor since there’s no backlight.

Summary:

The Garmin Vívoactive is a pretty decent smartwatch but it suffers from a really buggy software and poor screen. Otherwise, it could be a good choice for most athletes out there because it really looks good on the wrist and tracks fitness activities really well.
