Founded by Sebastian Cortjaens and Jules van Helvoort, MAEN watches is inspired by a ship that changed the course of history. The name of this ship was Halve Maen (‘Half Moon’). The ship owes its fame to the journey it undertook in 1609 to the East Coast of North America. This trip led to the founding of the colony of New Netherlands and the settlement of New Amsterdam, now New York City.
As a tribute to its brand name, MAEN has just released their classic Moonphase collection. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the classic moonphase with a charcoal grey face and black strap in a gold plated case.
The grey dial is simple and classic and features faceted hands, polished indexes, and a moonphase dial, all protected by sapphire crystal.
The case is 316L stainless steel and gold plated.
The case back is customized with a laser engraved MAEN logo surrounded by a web looking pattern that should symbolize the movement of the Moon around the Earth.
Under the hood is a Swiss made Quartz movement manufactured by Ronda.
The dimensions are 38MM wide, 7MM thick and sports a 18MM high-quality leather strap.
Overall: This is a very clean looking, simplistic watch. If you’re looking for a watch with a Moonphase complication at a lower price point this will suit your needs quite well. Its 38MM diameter makes it a great fit for those with smaller wrists.
Current Price: $306.00 from MaenWatches.com (Note that this exact model is no longer available. Please check out the newest models)
Simple, classy and elegant. Moonphase complication. Water resistant.
The 38 mm case makes it a little small for bigger wrists and hands.
The Maen classic moonphase is an elegant style watch that has a really nice complication at a fair pricepoint. It's a nice addition to any collection.
