Finally, the Samsung Gear S3 is here and boy what a great smartwatch it turned out to be. It is now bigger, better, and nicer but that is not to say that this smartwatch is not without flaws.
First let’s talk about the design. The Samsung Gear S3’s design language is based on a traditional timepiece. This is a different design approach from the Gear S2 which features a futuristic design. The aesthetic appeal depends entirely on whether you like a smartwatch that looks just like an analog watch.
The Samsung Gear S3 is quite big and chunky. It measures at 49 x 46 x 12.9mm which is quite big for some people especially if you have small wrists. The 1.3-inch, 360 x 360 AMOLED touchscreen is by far the best display I’ve found on any smartwatches today. The display is sharp, bright, and vibrant which makes the watch easier to use. Aside from its beautiful display there is also the rotating bezel and two physical buttons to help you out in navigating the UI of the smart watch.
The Gear S3 is now IP68 certified for water resistance. You can submerge it in underwater for up 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and the watch will still be okay. The battery life is also very great. Kudos to Samsung for putting a large battery (380 mAh cell) inside the large body of this watch. As a result, the watch can now last for 3-4 days in one full charge. You will also appreciate its dual-core 1.0 GHz processor and 768MB RAM that should be more than enough to keep things running smoothly. A 4GB of storage is also offered which should be enough for you to store your images, music and maybe install a couple of apps.
The Samsung Gear S3 is also equipped with a couple of sensors which includes GPS, accelerometer, heart rate sensor, barometer, Wi-Fi, and gyroscope. Thanks to its on-board sensors, the watch can be also used as a fitness tracking device. But I recommend that you use a dedicated fitness tracker if you are really into exercises because the accuracy of the sensors inside the Samsung Gear S3 is really not consistent.
